    Description

I've tried to do a bit of research and think this is referred to as a matte collodion photograph.  As this photograph is well over 100 years old, naturally there is some wear, but overall condition is quite good.  It is matted to a dark gray cardboard type material - whatever they were using in that time period I assume.  Photo is approx 9 1/2" L x 7 1/2" H - mounted dimensions approx 12" x 10".  5 teepees in the background and a dog in the foreground.  Studio stamp on reverse is C.C.Stotz Photographer El Reno, O.T.
Native-American scenic photo by Charles Christopher Stotz (1851-1932) who established a studio in 1889, the date of the founding of El Reno, Oklahoma Territory.  As statehood was 1907, picture is between 1889 and 1907.  The location placed Mr. Stotz close to the Darlington Cheyenne-Arapahoe Agency and he made field and studio photographs of Southern Plains Indians.  Mr. Stotz's works are at the Gilcrease Museum in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as well as other museums housing western historical images.  Smaller images are referred to as boudoir cards or cabinet cards.
Also listed are books, new to antique, JEWELRY, cookbooks, Hallmark ornaments, TRAINS, and more.
